Description:

Background:

Reducing stubborn pockets of fat and bumpy cellulite has become easier since the introduction of Mesotherapy in the United States. Originally developed in France in 1952 by Dr. Michael Pistor, Mesotherapy has been used on a daily basis by over 15,000 doctors worldwide. Mesotherapy can be used to treat fatty pockets on the face and body, and can reduce the appearance of cellulite dramatically.

About Mesotherapy:

Mesotherapy delivers medications and homeopathic substances, such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes to a specific area of the body via painless micro-injections.

Using tiny needles (about the size of an eyelash), the medications are injected into the layer just beneath the skin, called the mesoderm. The medications melt the fat beneath the skin and shrink the fat cells in the Scarpa's fascia layer. The fat dissolves and is excreted by the kidneys and the bowel without any noticeable changes in your bowel habits.

Mesotherapy for Spot Reducing:

Mesotherapy is ideal for patients who wish to remove small amounts of fat deposits on arms, hips, tummy, thighs, "love handles," neck, chin and other areas of the body that are resistant to diet and exercise. This procedure is also ideal for patients who find liposuction too invasive.

A series of treatments are given one to two weeks apart. The total number of treatments required will vary for each individual patient. Visible results, measured in inches, are usually quite long lasting when combined with regular exercise and an overall healthy lifestyle.

Mesotherapy for Cellulite:

Cellulite is the bumpy skin and tissue most commonly found on upper thighs and lower buttocks (in fact, it's estimated that 90% of women have it somewhere).

Cellulite is caused by connective tissue bands that hold down the skin, trapping the fat and thereby causing the "dimpling" effect. Mesotherapy helps destroy the connective tissue bands and melt the trapped fat, creating a smooth, dimple-free appearance.

The Mesotherapy formulation is based on the location and stage of cellulite for each individual patient. Each customized blend of medications interact with the fat cells in four key ways:
  1. Excess fat deposits are dissolved
  2. Blood flow to the area is improved
  3. Fibrotic, hardened connective tissue is removed
  4. Lymphatic drainage is improved
Mesotherapy Results:

Results vary by patient, but we find that in general after 5-10 treatments, most patients lose 2-6 inches from their thighs, waist and hips. You can lose several inches from love handles, fat pads on back and hips and other problem areas.

Am I a candidate for Mesotherapy?

A qualified GIAA physician will conduct a comprehensive consultation with you before proceeding with Mesotherapy. During this consultation, you will want to tell the doctor about any conditions you have or medications you are on. Some of the contraindications for Mesotherapy are:
  • Heart disease, hepatic diseases, diabetes, or renal disease.
  • Pregnancy or those who are breast feeding.
  • Patients with a history of strokes, blood clots, or obesity.
  • Patients using medications such as blood thinners.
If you are in good health with none of the aforementioned issues, you may be a candidate for treatment. Patients should avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications, vitamin E and St. Johns Wort for at least 2-3 days prior to each Mesotherapy treatment.

Is Mesotherapy a good way to lose weight?

Mesotherapy is not a weight loss method. While some weight loss will naturally occur due to the loss of inches from treatments, it is for generally healthy people who have stubborn areas of fat or cellulite.

General Recovery Information:

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion comes from the above mentioned technique dermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is a more natural skin care that is a gentler, less invasive technology for doing an exfoliation on the skin.

The goal of the microdermabrasion is to eliminate the superficial layer of the skin called the epidermis. If the surface of the abraded skin is touched, a roughness of the skin will be noticed.

The roughness is keratinocytes, which are better hydrated than the surface corneocytes.

Keratinocytes appear in the basal layer from the proliferation of keratinocyte stem cells. They are pushed up through the cells of the epidermis, experiencing gradual specialization until they reach the stratum corneum where they form a layer of dead, flattened, strongly keratinized cells called squamous cells.

This layer creates an efficient barrier to the entry of foreign matter and infectious elements into the body and reduces moisture loss. Keratinocytes are shed and restored continuously from the stratum corneum. The time of transit from basal layer to shedding is generally one month.

Corneocytes are cells derived from keratinocytes in the late stages of terminal specialization of squamous epithelia.

The microdermabrasion is done to eliminate some of the corneocytes. These cells are responsible for the impermeability of the skin. The minimizing or elimination of scars, skin lesions, blotchiness and stretch marks from the skin can be an easy process with the use of skin exfoliation.

The result depends on how well the procedure known as "skin remodeling" works. Results are optimal and fewer treatments are needed with more recent and/or superficial scars. Still, microdermabrasion can be used on scars that showed up during puberty or many years later.
