Description:
Dermabrasion (sometimes called surgical skin planing), is a way to refinish skin and give it a smoother, fresher appearance. Acne scars, raised scars, wrinkles, and other surface irregularities are smoothed away to reveal fresh, smooth new skin. The top two requests for this procedure at GIAA are those who seek to improve the appearance of acne scars, and those wanting to smooth out fine lines around the mouth.
This abrasive or planing action improves skin contour as a new layer of skin replaces the treated skin. A local anesthetic is used during this procedure.
Your recovery and healing time after dermabrasion depends on the size and depth of the area that was treated. The deeper the abrasions and the larger the area treated, the longer you will take to heal. In general, regrowth of skin occurs around the 1-week mark after treatment. This new skin is a pink or red color, which usually fades within 6 to 12 weeks. Until then, the pink/red tones can usually be covered up nicely using makeup.
