Liposuction is also called liposculpting, body sculpting or lipoplasty. Good candidates include men and women with firm, elastic skin, good overall health, and are usually within 10% of their ideal weight. Liposuction does not remove cellulite, only fat, and is not a weight loss method. It is excellent for targeting stubborn pockets of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.

The fat cells are removed permanently through small incisions using a cannula. We are often asked about what happens if you gain weight after the procedure. You can still gain weight after having liposuction, but usually the fat will not concentrate in the area that was treated. So, if you've always had heavy thighs, liposuction can help balance your body out and slim that area. If you put significant weight on, the fat is more likely to be spread out throughout your body rather than localized in your "trouble spots" which have been treated. To keep your new shape and new weight after liposuction, you must follow a proper diet and exercise plan.

General Recovery Information: The extent of downtime after liposuction depends on the nature of the case. Localized cases (love handles, tummy) require less recovery time than larger or multiple areas (tummy + thighs). Most people can return to work within a week, and to normal activities in 2-3 weeks. You should expect bruising, swelling, and soreness for a least a few weeks. Your doctor will discuss what results you can expect to achieve and how to best maintain your new body shape.
